Cutting Instructions
For placemats, fold your fabric in half lengthwise, ensuring the selvedges align.
Then measure and mark a rectangle measuring 18 1/2” wide by 12 1/2” long!
Draw three additional rectangles using the same dimensions and cut along the lines.
To prevent shifting while you cut, I recommend pinning the fabric inside the marked lines.
When it comes to the napkins, fold your chosen fabric lengthwise again.
Measure and mark two squares at 21 1/2” to ensure that they are even for the perfect napkin!
Remember to pin for stability!
Assembling the Placemats
Here’s where the magic happens!
Pin two placemat pieces together with their right sides facing in and edges evenly matched.
Stitch all around the edges while leaving one long edge unsewn for turning it right-side out!
Once it’s sewed, trim the corners diagonally to help reduce bulk, then turn it out and press it flat.
Don’t forget to press the seam allowance at the opening to the inside before pinning it down!
Stitch around the edges again at 1/4” for a neat finish.
Making the Napkins
Now, onto the napkins!
Measure a line 3/4” in from each edge of the napkin and turn under the raw edge to meet that line, giving it a nice press!
Fold it under a second time and press again to form a double-fold hem, how satisfying!
For those beautiful corners, open them out and fold the corner into the seam diagonally before pressing and trimming.
Isn’t it exciting to watch everything come together?
Top-stitch the hem close to the fold to secure it in place, making sure it’s all perfect!
